PARTICIPANT PROFILE
Fatuma Roba, 21, has been a member of the Binti Pamoja Center since June 2002 and is currently a member of the alumni group and a scholarship recipient.
She writes: “I am Fatuma Roba, a student at Langata High School. I am in Form Three and I think I am going to finish my Form Four course at Langata. After I finish my high school I know, since I have faith in my studies, that I will be able to go to university or probably a college which will make me see my future plan fulfilled. I am eighteen years old and a third born in my family. My family is a single parent since my dad died in the year 1998…Thank God my mother was there for us, she is the father and also the mother in my family. She is the one who is working hard to see her children in school, eat well, and dress nicely. By doing this my mother is my best friend because without her I would not be the real Fatuma you usually see or laugh with…I like learning, watching movies, traveling, and making friends. My favorite subjects in school are history and mathematics…I usually dream of becoming a politician…I am a young upcoming woman and a leader of
tomorrow.”
As one of the Binti Pamoja founding members, Fatuma Roba was featured in the September newsletter edition of Nairobits, a partner NGO of CFK’s in Nairobi that trains youth in web designing. It’s a rigorous one-year course and CFK pays the transportation costs for volunteers who make it through the application and selection process.
Additionaly, Fatuma presented to the UN Committee on Women at the UN Headquarters in New York last Spring.
