Alan Cross

CFK welcomed Dr. Alan Cross to Kibera in Fall 2003. Dr. Cross, a professor at UNC's Schools of Medicine and Public Health and Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, spent a day with Tabitha seeing patients and making home visits to HIV/AIDS patients. While it was his first visit to CFK's clinic in Kibera, Dr. Cross is no newcomer to Kenya. In the mid-1970's, Dr. Cross and his family lived in Nairobi for two years while he worked as a lecturer in the University of Nairobi's Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Cross returned on sabbatical to Kenya and the University of Nairobi Faculty of Medicine in 1990. During this time he led one of the initial public health assessments of Kibera. Dr. Cross has been a critical supporter of CFK since its inception and is a member of CFK's Board of Directors.
