Christopher Howard

Dr. Christopher B. Howard is a 1991 Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where he received a B.S. in Political Science. Howard served as Class President, Group Commander, and a Center for the Study of the Presidency Fellow at the Academy. He also garnered 1st Team Academic All-American Honors as the starting running back on the football team that upset Ohio State University in the Liberty Bowl. Upon graduating, Howard was named a Rhodes Scholar. While attending Oxford University, he wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on Congressional behavior during instances when the U.S. has used military force from 1975-1991 and was elected Vice President of the Strategic Studies Group. Dr. Howard is a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
With an emphasis on general management, Howard worked in sales, marketing, international project management, strategic planning, business development and internal consulting at Bristol-Myers Squibb in a program comprising five individuals handpicked by the company's CEO. His most notable assignment was serving as a manager on a $100 million HIV/AIDS initiative in southern Africa called Secure The Future. Howard is the CEO and Founder of the IYL Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides scholarship and travel opportunities for South African students of color.
He is also an Aspen Institute "Henry Crown Fellow", Council on Foreign Relations Term Member, Remarque Institute Forum participant, and a Duke University School of Public Policy and Cape Town School of Business "Emerging Leaders Fellow". Howard participates in the Renaissance Weekend program and is a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies. In 1998, Dr. Howard was named "100 Heroes of Plano Independent School District." In 2003, he was inducted into the Verizon Academic All-American Hall of Fame along with Super Bowl MVP Steve Young and Congressman Tom Osburne. He earned his MBA with a Distinction from Harvard Business School in 2003 and is also a member of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Advisory Board. One of twenty individuals working in General Electric's Corporate Initiatives Group where he reports to the company's Chief Information Officer, Major Howard was called to active duty for one year, where he served in Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr. Howard is married to the former Miss Barbara Noble of Johannesburg, South Africa. They have two sons, Cohen and Joshua.
