SPORTS ASSOCIATION

CLEAN UPS

Every year, the CFK Youth Sports Program hosts a minimum of six major community clean-ups in the various villages of Kibera. Such clean-ups have been an integral part of the organization since its inception, involving community members, hundreds of players from the soccer tournaments, as well as volunteers from CFK’s other three programs.

clean up photoOn average, CFK holds a community clean-up in one of Kibera’s eleven villages twice every month, where youth literally clean the slum with shovels, trash bags, and pushcarts.  Participation in CFK’s community clean-ups is always between 500 and 700 participants.

Over the past several years, CFK has purchased much of its own cleaning materials (shovels, etc) for the clean-ups. The organization now temp-loans this equipment to various self-help groups throughout Kibera who are holding community clean-ups on their own initiative.
